Spring:
A time of renewal –for people, the countryside,
the flowers.
People are out and about, emerging from the cold of
winter.
The Spring Migration Festival – the first weekend
in September – in its second year promising fun,
dance and laughter.
Yackandandah’s Flower Show in October is not to
be missed – plus visits to open gardens in the
area.
Fairs and fetes – a country tradition.
Summer:
An abundance of roses! Warm (and sometimes hot) sunny
days and long lazy evenings. Waterholes and rivers for
swimming and fishing.
Expeditions to the Alpine areas - the wildflowers in
January!
Picnics, walking in nearby State Forests – we
can arrange lunch baskets for you.
Visit gourmet cafes, restaurants and wineries around
the region.
Autumn:
Perhaps the loveliest season of all! The North East
is famous for the colours of Autumn. Days are still
sunny and warm while nights are crisp. Gardens put out
their best before winter sets in. A very special time
to enjoy.
Winter:
We often have blue skies while mornings and nights are
cold! The snow is within easy reach – for serious
skiing or just playing! The cottage is warm and sunny.
Another great time for serious eating and drinking!
Close to home:
Allans Flat - Schmidt's Strawberry Winery, Vienna Patisserie
Chalet ( great cakes and coffee), the original swimming
hole. (10 minutes drive)
Picnics in the nearby state forests, or by the river
and creeks. We can arrange lunch baskets for you.
The Lavender Farm (10 minutes car trip)
Kirby's Flat Pottery (5 minutes by car or a very pleasant walk)
Further afield:
Historic Beechworth - legends, gold, historic cemetery,
wineries, shopping! (15 minutes car trip)
Rutherglen - Wine Region, vineyards and tasting, Dining,
Cellar door sales. (30 minutes)
Chiltern / Indigo Valley - Colourful historic village.
Winery - Watchbox winery and Cafe. (15-20 minutes)
Sandy Creek - We can arrange for you to visit Harmony
Herbs, an organic herb farm, you can buy fresh herbs
in pots or a range of packaged culinary and medicinal
herbs. They also hold regular workshops on the growing
and useage of herbs.
Albury / Wodonga - Thriving regional centres on the
Murray River. Shopping and Restaurants. (30 minutes)
Hume Weir - fishing, swimming and boating at the Hume
Weir. (30 minutes)
North East Alpine Region
Mt. Buffalo - only 60 minutes away, via Myrtleford and
Porepunkah. What a wonderful day trip!
Falls Creek Ski Village and The Bogong High Plains -
via Kiewa Valley, at the foot of Mt. Bogong. (1 to 1.5
hours)
Mt. Hotham, Dinner Plain Ski Villages and National Park
- a picturesque drive to the 'top of the world' via
Bright and Harrietville. (about 2 hours)
